House flies, bluebottles, and flesh flies are classified as disease carriers that can bring contagious diseases to humans, especially infectious gastrointestinal disorders such as dysentery, typhoid, food poisoning, cholera, and some helminthiasis. It can also bring leprosy, polio, certain skin conditions like yaws, and contagious eye diseases like conjunctivitis.
• They often bring annoyance. Flies are the most common cause of nuisance in an area with many flies, especially in shops, restaurants, and vacation places. Issues often arise during eating. Particularly, the flies found on ranches can cause enormous livestock problems.
• They are egg carriers of various parasites. The flies seek to feed on food containing parasite eggs. The parasite eggs are attached to the insects along the body and intestines, which insects may pass on the egg by contaminating the food.
• They carry specific pathogens in domestic animals, such as Trypanosoma spp., which causes disease in horses and donkeys.
Flies are the main culprit in transmitting many infectious diseases to humans. But the species remarkably close to humans are house flies, bluebottle flies, and black soldier flies because flies have a habit of clinging to food and reproducing in manure such as waste piles and putrid food waste.
• Survey the surrounding area inside and outside the building, especially the dumpster, for their habitat and breeding sites.
• Do chemical spraying if their habitat or breeding sites were found.
• Inside the building, place a mosquito bait further away from food.
• Set up a light trap. Don't install it facing the sun if the restaurant is without air conditioning.
• Spray chemicals using a ULV unit in areas that are not food-related or food containers.
